What we handle

  • Preliminary, basic and structural design
  • Conversion projects, technical specifications and technical manuals
  • Feasibility studies and technical evaluations
  • On-site casualty attendance and initial damage assessment
  • Assessing salvage, towage, temporary repair and lightering needs; liaison with local authorities
  • Repair monitoring from specification to final bill; technical expert evidence in arbitration and ADR

How it works

  1. Send a brief

Send a short description of the project or incident with the ship's name and IMO number. For a casualty, include the vessel's current location.

  2. Agree the scope

We clarify what is needed and set out in writing the scope of the design, survey or expert work and the deliverables.

  3. Survey and engineering

Where needed, the ship is attended on board or at the yard, and calculations, drawings and specifications are prepared.

  4. Report and follow-up

Findings are reported, and technical follow-up continues through the repair, salvage or dispute process.

Why Liva Marine

  • Design to casualty in one place

Design work, casualty investigation and claims support run through the same contact, so information is not lost between parties.

  • Alongside flag and class

Liva Marine also handles flag registration and class, so technical work can be planned together with the ship's registry and survey requirements.

  • 250+ ships since 2014

Since 2014 our Istanbul team has served more than 250 ships for over 50 clients.

Frequently asked questions

What does a marine casualty investigation cover?

It covers on-site attendance with an initial damage assessment, identifying salvage, towage, temporary repair and cargo transhipment needs, and liaising with local authorities. Repairs are then monitored from the specification through to the final repair bill.

Can you provide engineering for a ship conversion?

Yes. For conversion projects we can prepare preliminary, basic and structural design, technical specifications and feasibility studies. The scope is agreed with you based on the project brief.

Do you provide technical expert support in arbitration?

Yes. We provide technical support in arbitration and other forms of alternative dispute resolution, including technical expert evidence where required.

What information do you need for a damage assessment?

The ship's name and IMO number, the date and a short description of the incident, the vessel's current location and any photos are enough for a first review. Details of the underwriters or P&I club also help.

Write to us

Send us the ship's name, IMO number and a short summary of the project or incident, and we will put you in touch with the right engineer.
